Guava

What is it: A sweet, aromatic tropical fruit. Native to Mexico, Central and South America.

Benefits:

The ripe fruit are mildly laxative and have ten times as much Vitamin C as an orange. Rich in Vitamins A and B, they are also high in iron. Highly effective in removing constipation. They are often referred to as "The Superfruit" they also have good levels of dietary minerals, potassium and magnesium.

buying and storing:

They are usually 4 to 12 cm long, and are round or oval depending on the species. The outer skin may be rough, often with a bitter taste, or soft and sweet. Varying between species, the skin can be any thickness, it is usually green before maturity, but becomes yellow, maroon, or green when ripe. 

Store in the refrigerator for up to 10 days

taste:

Guava pulp may be sweet or sour, off-white to deep pink.

Aroma:

Guava fruit generally has a pronounced and typical fragrance, similar to lemon rind but less sharp.

Preparation:

Best eaten fresh, slice in half discard skin add sea salt and fresh chilli.
